Huawei has been engaging quietly a lot these days. They listed the Y5 2019 without much of an announcement. Similar is the case with the new Honor 8S which has been launched in Russia at roughly Rs. 8900.
It is similar to the Y5 and has only minor design changes. It features a dew-drop notch design. The screen is a 5.71-inch HD+ (720×1520 pixels) display with 84.6 screen-to-body ratio which is impressive at this price.
The 8S rocks the budget level Mediatek Helio A22 SoC coupled with 2GB of RAM. In the Camera department, we have a 13-MP f/1.8 rear sensor and 5 MP f/2.2 front sensor. Powering this device is a 3020mAh battery which should give a day’s power with ease. For all the storage needs, the internal is 32GB which is expandable upto 512 GB by a microSD card.
The device runs EMUI 9.0 on top of Android 9 Pie. EMUI has been criticised in the past for the restrictions it imposes on the customisation end as it blocks even the 3rd party launchers.
The device still offers a micro-usb port but we can’t expect a lot at this price. Overall the device is excellent for this budget.
