After announcing the project last December, Microsoft has now launched the Edge browser with the Chromium Engine for testing. The project is a part of Microsoft Edge Insider Testing Program. This browser is an open source and you can get the canary builds here. Microsoft will have four separate channel releases of the new Edge browser. The two channels available now are: Canary Channel, Dev Channel. Beta channel will also be available soon.
Canary and Developer builds can be downloaded on Windows 10 PCs , according to the Microsoft Edge Insider community post. Support for mac and all supported version of Windows will also come over time. Canary builds will be updated daily and is likely to be bug-ridden while Developer builds will be updated weekly. To join the testing program, testers just need to download a particular browser release.
Similarities with Chrome
The first version of Edge with Chromium has very little differences with Google’s Chrome. Apart from its own extension store, the browser also supports Chrome extension. Services like Bling, Microsoft News have been integrated into the browser.
This channel will be the most stable version of browser. It will be released soon after the company finds least bugs in other channels.
