Netflix has warned it’s users and the fans against the trending, potentially dangerous Birdbox challenge which is inspired by the movie ‘Birdbox’ on Netflix. Birdbox is a Netflix Original movie starring Sandra Bullock, in which a phenomenon causes mass suicide among a society. The story shows the struggle of a survivor and her two children make a desperate bid to reach safety.
The challenge includes the participant to be blindfolded for a certain period of time while wandering around and doing their chores. There have been many participants attempting the Birdbox challenge and has caused Netflix to be in a rather tricky situation. The success of Birdbox can be is partly due to the releases of memes and the challenge shortly after the movie was released, but it also poses a lot of potential lawsuits. Netflix came out on twitter to address the matter by tweeting the following:
Can’t believe I have to say this, but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE. We don’t know how this started, and we appreciate the love, but Boy and Girl have just one wish for 2019 and it is that you not end up in the hospital due to memes.
