No matter if you will buy a Samsung or a non-Samsung phone this year, but one thing is certain. And that is, your phone may end up having a 12GB massive RAM, made by the South Korean giant itself! Yes, you read that right.
Currently, the high-end RAM is available only for Samsung’s 2019 flagship model, Galaxy S10 Plus. But according to the new reports, the chip may be made available for other smartphones too. As Samsung just recently announced that it is now mass-producing the 12GB RAM smartphone module.
The explanation provided by Samsung about how it is making these chips is given below:
The 12GB capacity was achieved by combining six 16-gigabit (Gb) LPDDR4X chips based on the second-generation 10nm-class (1y-nm) process into a single package, providing more space for the smartphone battery. In addition, by using the company’s 1y-nm technology, the new 12GB mobile memory delivers a data transfer rate of 34.1GB per second while minimizing the increase in power consumption inevitably caused by a boost in DRAM capacity.
Samsung is using the 1y-nm technology for reducing the size of the RAM module to 1.1 millimeters. This will enable the company to cut back on the power usage of the chip. And it won’t slow down the transfer rate of the chip too, which is great.
